Screening for Osteoporosis:
While you are at our office for another study ordered by your physician, you may
be eligible for a free heel screening for osteoporosis.
Radiology Associates of Tallahassee and The Women's Imaging Center
are pleased to offer a free heel screening for osteoporosis to anyone who qualifies.
If you have at least two of the risk factors listed below, you may be eligible for
this free osteoporosis screening exam.
- Men – age 65 and older.
- Men - Low testosterone levels?
- Women – age 55 and older.
- Women - Menopause before the age of 45?
- Previous fracture after the age of 40?
- Family history of osteoporosis?
- Do you weigh less than 125 pounds?
- Do you smoke?
- Do you consume heavy amounts of alcohol?
- Do you live a sedentary lifestyle?
- Is your diet low in calcium?
- Do you take certain medications including steroids (Prednisone, Cortisone), excessive
thyroid hormones or have you had cancer, asthma, or arthritis treatments?
Things you should know... This screening is only a scan of your heel bone calcaneous
and is not meant to be used as a diagnostic tool or a monitoring tool if you have
already been diagnosed with osteoporosis. The information provided with this heel
scan should not be relied upon for detection, diagnosis, treatment or care of health
conditions or diseases. This information should not be used as a substitute for
consultation with a health care professional. Radiology Associates recommends that
you consult your primary care physician about your personal medical history and
health care concerns.
